THE Met Office has given a strong hint that it will be a White Christmas – with snow set to fall.
Forecasters said there is a chance of “wintry showers” in northern areas at the end of this week and over the weekend.

If the wintry showers persist into next week, there could be a dusting of snow on Christmas Day.
A Met Office spokesperson said: “As we head towards the end of next week and the festive period there is, as always, more uncertainty in the forecast.
“However, there are indications that by the end of next week we could see high pressure moving further south and west away from the UK, allowing northwesterly winds to develop at times.
“This would allow some short periods where colder air affects the UK, with the potential for wintry showers in northern areas.”
But any snow is unlikely to settle, with little sign of a “widespread or severe” cold snap.
This week will be rainy in many parts, with the mercury hovering around the December average.
Met Office expert Matthew Lehnert said: “Into early next week, this weather front will move slowly south and bring some rain to the remainder of the UK.
“As the front clears south, temperatures will return to near average.
“It will remain changeable through midweek, with the best of any prolonged drier spells in the south and east.”
There are no weather warnings currently in place for this week or next.
