THE Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning as the UK is braced to be buffeted by strong winds, heavy rain, thunder and hail.

It comes as autumn begins with the remnants of Hurricane Erin hitting the island.

Gales are due to batter the exposed western coastal areas with the Met Office issuing a yellow weather warning for Southern Scotland.

Strong winds blowing in from the Atlantic are bringing heavy rain with up to 50mm expected to hit some parts of the country.

The Met Office has warned that the heavy rainfall could lead to floods and travel disruption.

Brits have been told to expect challenging driving conditions on the roads as sheets of rain lash down.

The weather warning is in place from 3am until 10am tomorrow morning.

Most of the UK will experience sporadic showers, most frequently in the West, with spells of rain continuing into the evening and night.

Brits have been warned that the showers may even bring hail and thunder with them.

Yesterday, as Hurricane Erin dropped the last of its downpours, parts of the country were soaked with heavy rain.

Festivalgoers attending one of the final events of the summer season, the End Of The Road Festival in Wiltshire, were forced into wet weather gear.

The final gusts and showers of the hurricane dropped on the sell-out crowd of 13,500 who were forced to tough it out for the event.

Warm and sunny weather on Thursday and Friday have been quickly replaced by wind and rain yesterday and today which is expected to continue until Monday and into next week.

The rainfall is due to keep hitting Western and Southern areas of the country tonight and tomorrow, again possibly bringing hail and thunder as Hurricane Erin passes over the UK.

The showers could turn into heavy downpours with hail and thunder remaining a real possibility for many across the country.

The Met Office and Environment Agency have said that the flood risk in England is low but have forecast heavy downpours in parts of the country tonight, tomorrow and into next week.

Flood warnings have been put in place for Scotland along with a yellow weather warning for rain as Hurricane Erin makes its way North East over the UK.

Brits can expect brisk winds and heavy rain to continue into September as summer comes to a close and autumn begins in earnest.

Despite the rain and wind, temperatures will remain relatively pleasant.

Most of the country will experience temperatures in the low-teens to early 20s throughout today.

Eastern areas of the country will avoid the worst of Hurricane Erin’s remnants and remain relatively dry today.

In the coming days however, the whole country is expected to be hit with heavy showers, hail and thunder.

Forecasts suggest the sporadic rain and strong wind could continue into next week with hail and thunder remaining a possibility in the coming days.
