THE Met Office has warned Brits to prepare for another drenching of rain today – but dry, bright sunshine is just days away.

Wednesday will be cloudy and damp for many across the UK with patchy rain to begin.

There will be showers in northern, eastern and central England throughout the day.

Temperatures are expected to reach a high of 10C today in the southwest of England before a low of 2C overnight in parts of the country.

By nightfall a band of rain will move southeast across Scotland, Northern Ireland, northern England and Wales, the forecaster said.

The rain will continue tomorrow as a band of downpours moves across the UK – but the good news is that it will become lighter and patchier throughout the day.

Northwest Scotland will see a “few showers” on Thursday, according to the Met Office.

The weekend forecast is more positive with “mild” temperatures expected.

It is also forecast to be “largely dry for many” from Friday to Sunday, with “brightness” in the east of the UK.

POURING DOWN

Today’s rain comes after days of yellow warnings for heavy downpours.

Brits were warned to brace for travel chaos as well as flooding on roads and of homes.

Last week, Storm Elin lashed Britain with 70mph winds as large swathes of the country were covered with yellow weather warnings.

Meanwhile, according to the Met Office’s long-range forecast there is a chance of snow in the lead up to Christmas.

The forecast reads: “It now looks probable that there will be at least one short-lived colder interlude next week, with a period of north or northwesterly winds that could bring some snow and ice, especially in the north.”
