THE MET Office has warned of snow in two parts of Britain – with a big freeze set to sweep across the country in just days.

Forecasters said that winds from the north will drag the mercury downwards later this month.

A cold snap is possible across much of the UK from February 16 onwards.

The plummeting temperatures could bring snow, especially in the north and east.

But the weather later this month will mostly be drier and more settled than it is at the moment.

Today will be rather cloudy and windy, with some patchy rain or drizzle at times in the west and north west.

The east will enjoy brighter spells, and conditions will be very mild nationwide.

Tonight will also be cloudy and mild, with some patchy rain in the west.

It will feel clearer and fresher in the north, although still rather windy.

Tomorrow will still be mostly cloudy and mild in the south, with patchy rain in the west.

Showers will push across western Scotland, but it will be brighter with sunny spells elsewhere.

Next week will have a cloudy and mild start, before it gets colder in the north from Tuesday onwards.

It will be rainy and cold at times, especially in the north and west of the UK.
