CALEB Hamlin-Uele knows Wakefield will be OK even if they are diverted off the carriageway – he once made the barriers.
The prop kept Trinity on the path back to Super League after joining them in the Championship.
Caleb Hamlin-Uele has revealed he used to make motorway crash barriers before moving to WakefieldSWPIX.COM
Now he is helping Daryl Powell’s side thrive in the top flight with a promising start.
But he revealed that should things go astray, his former career Down Under may come in handy.
Hamlin-Uele, once known as just Uele but who added the Hamlin to the delight of his mum’s side of the family, said ahead of tonight’s visit of Hull FC: “I made things like crash barriers when I was playing part-time in Australia.
“It was for a company called ModularWalls, which made more eco-friendly walls for motorways, so they were things like crash-resistant and fire-resistant.
“It was also making a cheaper, more environmentally friendly version. It was very interesting.
“But I wasn’t driving along the motorways going, ‘I did that.’ When I lived in Sydney, I just stayed in Cronulla as it had all you needed – the beach and the shops.

“I’m actually really enjoying my time living in Wakefield, though. The beautiful sunrises and sunsets make us grateful. It hasn’t got a beach but I’m scared of sharks.
“And we’ve done pretty well for a new team. In Super League, there’s a massive step up in the quality of player we’re up against and the speed.
“Everyone’s happy. There’s just a buzz around the club this year but we want that home win, the fans haven’t seen their team do so well in Super League for a couple of years, we owe them so much.”
