POOR locals living next to a bizarre “ghost Aldi supermarket” say confused tourists swarm their homes and huge lorries block their streets.

Maps claim to show an Aldi supermarket on a winding country lane, a few miles from Cyffylliog, a village in Denbighshire, Wales.

Photos show where the milk tanker got stuck en route to Aldigoogle

The phantom Aldi was situated a few miles west of Ruthin, near Cyffylioggoogle

Holidaymakers, shoppers and delivery drivers have all tried to find the Aldi but to no avail – despite it being marked on Google Maps.

Last week, the situation took a turn for the worse when a hefty milk tanker got lost looking for the store and required rescuing.

Photos on social media show the Muller Milk lorry to be in a very sorry state – facing the road diagonally and blocking all access.

Locals were warned the road to Hiraethog could be blocked for several hours.

One local took to social media to share a photo of the lorry on December 27, 2024.

They captioned the pic: “Anyone wanting to travel from the village up to Hiraethog, there’s a milk lorry stuck on the corner just passed Ysgubor Newydd!

“Sat nav took driver up here saying there’s an Aldi!!! No vehicles can get past. Could take a few hours for rescue to attend!”

Dozens of angry locals took to the comment section to share their frustration at the situation.

However, one person explained exactly who was to blame.

They said that a prankster had pinned the Aldi location manually to Google Maps.

And added: “Now we have an endless stream of day trippers and holiday makers turning up and looking confused, this is our first actual Aldi delivery.

“Poor fella tried pulling up allt Henblas and backing the trailer up our hill in a misguided attempt at turning around.

“Went down with a tractor but the fella had no idea where the towing eye was so I left it to the experts.

“They straightened him out to go to hiraethog to turn around and as he was rounding the corner at the bottom of the hill he slowed down to open his window and thank us and nearly got stuck again.

“Bless his cotton socks.”

Other locals were less understanding: “A bit crap for the people that live on the Farm at the pinpoint.

“Google have pics of the Ruthin Aldi but location is clearly wrong”, said one.

While a second person said: “He went past me when I was getting into my car in ruthin I thought it was odd seeing it going up llanfwrog.”

And a third said: “I tried to report this as on google maps an Aldi is shown as being up there!

“I know a few people who have made the same mistake! (Not locals !)”

Since the failed manoovre, the phantom Aldi has been removed from Google Maps.

The location is also not listed on Aldi’s website but the store has been approached for a comment.
