Airbnb Benjamin Holt thought he was renting the property to a family of five7 News
Benjamin Holt received a booking for what he thought was a family of five for his home in East Brisbane, Australia.
But the booking profile was a fake and an open-invite to the house party was posted on Snapchat.
Around 500 teenagers responded to the invite and piled into the house for the booze-filled party.
Holt was first alarmed when he received a threatening message on his Airbnb profile from one of the party-goers.
The teen wrote: “Hey, why the hell would you get the cops and news involved man.”
“Idc (I don’t care) if you press charges on me, I should’ve thrashed the house even more. And btw (by the way) I ain’t paying for anything which was damaged.
“Sent from my burner btw. If u wanna press charges go for it dude. But that would cost you too much money ahaha.”
Police were then called to shutdown the out-of-control party – but the damage had already been done.
After the cops arrived hundreds of teenagers fled from the house.
Others were spotted causing chaos as they clashed with officers.
Queensland Police confirmed the “large disturbance”.
A police statement said: “Shortly after 7.45pm officers dispersed a large group of people from a Geelong Street address.”
Shocking footage of the aftermath showed smashed glass and empty alcohol cans, a broken stair railing, and furniture and a vacuum among items thrown in the pool.
It’s too early to estimate the total cost of the damages but it is thought to be thousands of dollars.
But the Airbnb owner responded to the situation surprisingly calmly.
Holt said “the hardest part” of the ordeal was telling families who had booked a holiday at his Airbnb that they could no longer stay.
He said: “We had someone who was booked in yesterday for a five-night stay: two adults and two kids.
“I had to call them the night before at 10.30pm and tell them they won’t be able to stay.
“That’s the hardest part for me, the cancelled bookings, the people who have their holidays ruined.”
But Holt said he wants those responsible to own up and help pay for the repairs.
The owner added he thought they were “flushed with cash” as he had heard the event was a “paid party” – with an entry fee.
Corey Worthington trashed his family home in Australia 16 years ago.
The teen threw a party at his parents place in Melbourne on January 12, 2008.
The party caused a night of unruly carnage, prompting police, the air-squad their dog squad to attend.
His parents faced a $20,000 fine for the event that took place while they were away which grew a guest-list of more than 500 people.
Neighbours‘ cars were smashed and the community was forced to clean up the aftermath which spilt onto the surrounding streets.
