SANDRO TONALI is set to miss months of action for Newcastle after allegedly breaching betting rules.

The Newcastle midfielder joined the club from AC Milan for £55million and has been a key part of the team since then.

Sandro Tonali will miss months of action for Newcastle

But earlier this month, Tonali and Aston Villa Star Nicolo Zaniolo had to leave Italy’s Euro 2024 training camp after being told that they were involved in an investigation to do with betting offences.

“He and his family will continue to receive the club’s full support,” Newcastle said in a statement.

“Due to this ongoing process, Sandro and Newcastle United are unable to offer further comment at this time.”

Juventus midfielder Nicolo Fagiolo was also part of the investigation and he has already been given a seven-month ban by the Italian Football Federation.

When will Sandro Tonali’s ban kick in?

Tonali has co-operated with Italian authorities and his ban is set to be for 10 months, with an agreement close.

Tonali would therefore miss the rest of the Premier League season, Newcastle’s Champions League campaign, Euro 2024 and the start of next season’s domestic campaign.

Tonali, however, IS available to play against Borussia Dortmund tonight in the Champions League, with confirmation of the ban set to come later this week.

Only once the Italian midfielder’s suspension is confirmed, will his spell on the sidelines begin.

That means his ban could kick in for Newcastle’s visit to Wolves in the Premier League this weekend.

Magpies boss Eddie Howe said: “As far as I’m aware, I’m expecting him to be available [for Dortmund].

“I’m in a position where I’ll plan like that until I’m told differently. I can’t second guess what’s going to happen.

“He’s trained today and he’s available. I’ve heard very little as I’ve been preparing for the game and will wait on anything concrete coming through.”
