Who are Alexander Isak’s parents?

Alexander Isak was born in Solna (a municipality in Stockholm County), Sweden, on September 21, 1999.

Alexander has a number of siblings including his sister Semhar and his brother Sened.

While Alexander was born in Sweden and plays for the national football team, his parents are actually from Eritrea.

His father, Teame, and his mother decided to leave their country behind them in the 1980s after Eritrea was embroiled in a long civil war that was fought between competing organisations for the country’s liberation.

Since then, Isak has returned to Eritrea after being invited by Ambassador Zemede Tekle, the Commissioner of Culture and Sports of the country, for the first time since he became a football star.

During his stay, he took part in a grassroots project in Asmara before watching a game between aspiring footballers at a local stadium.

Where did Alexander Isak grow up?

Alexander’s childhood was spent in Solna where he ended up training with local team AIK aged six.

Under the coaching of fellow Eritrean descendant Nahom Ghidey, the youngster’s sporting talent flourished, and at the age of 16, Alexander made his debut with AIK, in the 2016 Swedish Cup tie.

And at 17 years old, Isak bid farewell to his childhood home in Sweden after he moved to Borussia Dortmund for an estimated transfer of £8million.

Why is Alexander Isak moving to Liverpool?

From there, Isak continued to excel, at Willem II on loan, scored 33 goals across 105 appearances at Real Sociedad, all before he moved to Newcastle United.

At Newcastle, the young player was an integral asset to the team’s Carabao Cup campaign, netting a goal in the 2-1 victory over Liverpool in the final and securing their first domestic title since 1955.

However, in the 2025 transfer window, Isak sent shockwaves into the footballing sphere after he demanded a move to Liverpool and refused to play for the team.

The transfer saga of the summer finally concluded in the early hours of deadline day, after almost a month-long stalemate.

It was a record-breaking deal worth £130m, Liverpool’s second record of the summer after they signed Florian Wirtz for £116.5m.

As a result, Isak will be leaving Newcastle, which has been his home since 2022, and moving to Merseyside to join the Premier League title holders, in a bid to achieve his desire for more silverware.
