The Nightingales’ shocking crime

The Nightingale brothers are identical twins who lived in Hull, Yorkshire, at the time of the crime.

Shane Boxall lived in Yorkshire and was recovering from surgery which had removed half of his skull, on the right side.

Boxall was also a father of nine and was reportedly involved in the drug trade at the time.

According to Judge John Thackray KC, the brothers were “both intoxicated” when they knocked on Boxall’s door and asked for drugs on April 25, 2024.

When they posted £150 through the letterbox, Boxall failed to hand over the drugs.

The judge said that the Nightingale brothers then “became aggressive” before kicking down Boxall’s exterior door.

Boxall barricaded himself in his bedroom, leading one of the brothers to headbutt the door so hard that they caused damage.

A woman warned them that Boxall only had “half a head”, but they began attacking him anyway.

Kailum then punched the 44-year-old dad, causing Boxall to start fitting.

He was treated by paramedics at the scene before being rushed to Hull Royal Infirmary but sadly passed away on April 27, 2024.

Brothers face justice

The twins, both aged 26, were seen at the scene but fled when the authorities arrived.

They were eventually arrested for their crime and faced a criminal trial

In court, the Judge Thackray said: “Shane Boxall was much loved, indeed idolised by his siblings, children and grandchildren, who will never recover from his loss.

“No sentence I can impose can undo the damage you have done or lessen the pain to the loved ones of Shane Boxall.”

The pair had previous convictions and had spent a year in a young offenders’ institution for offences of affray and possessing an offensive weapon.

Both brothers were convicted of manslaughter, with Kailum facing 10 years in jail and Kieran spending nine years behind bars.
