Who is Casey White?

Born on August 20, 1983, Casey White is a convicted felon who escaped from Lauderdale County Jail for 11 days.

Before his prison break, White was already serving time for a list of previous convictions.

On April 16, 2019, he was sentenced to 75-plus years in prison after he was found guilty of:

Attempted murderFirst-degree kidnapping (Two counts)First-degree burglaryThird-degree burglaryFirst-degree robberyUnlawful breaking and entering vehicle

Previously, White was also incarcerated for a domestic violence conviction.

On March 28, 2017, he was sentenced to six years behind bars for the guilty verdict from the abovementioned domestic violence charge.

When did Casey White escape from prison?

On April 29, 2022, Casey White broke out of the Lauderdale County Detention Center.

For 11 days, Casey was on the run with the jailhouse’s assistant corrections director Vicky White.

At the time, it was revealed the two were romantically involved.

Despite sharing the same last name, the pair were not related.

On the above-mentioned date, she reportedly ordered the staff to prepare Casey for transport due to a supposed mental health evaluation scheduled for later that day.

The scheduling of the appointment turned out to be non-existent and was discovered to be a ruse.

Vicky’s deception served as a distraction to give her and Casey time to escape.

Later in the day, law enforcement found her police car abandoned and the two became fugitives on the run.

Alabama sheriff Rick Singleton released a statement and revealed: “Being the boss and over the transport, she just informed the booking officer that she was going to carry him to the courthouse and drop him off, which was a flagrant violation of policy.

“But I’m sure because it was her boss, the booking officer didn’t question it.”

When was Casey White captured?

On May 9, 2022, police officials located Casey and Vicky in Evansville, Indiana, after a tip from a car wash manager who noticed their vehicle described by reports.

The two fugitives took the police on a brief car chase before crashing.

Casey surrendered and Vicky was taken to the hospital for a reported self-inflicted gunshot wound; she died from her injuries.

Sheriff Singleton said of the criminal’s recapture: “What I am very thankful for tonight is that no one was hurt, no citizens were hurt, no law enforcement officers were hurt as a result of this escape.

“We’ve already made arrangements for the Department of Corrections, he [Casey White] will be brought here [Alabama] for arraignment.”

Singleton shared with the press: “If it’s 2 o’clock in the morning, it doesn’t matter. The judge has agreed to come out.

“I had every bit of trust in Vicky White. She had been an exemplary employee.

“And what in the world provoked her, or prompted her, to pull something like this, I don’t know. I don’t know if we’ll ever know.”

Where is Casey White now?

On June 8, 2023, Casey White was sentenced to life in prison for first-degree prison escape.

He remains incarcerated at William E. Donaldson Correctional Facility in Jefferson County, Alabama.

At his sentencing, he professed his love for the late Vicky and told the court: “I feel like the most hated man in the world.

“I loved Vicky, and I wouldn’t drag her name through the mud for anyone in this courtroom.

“Vicky took me out because she said ‘right was right, wrong was wrong.’

“The first person to show me affection. The first person to give me a hug in six years.”

He added: “We just wanted a new life together because she knew the truth.

“I can handle the truth because I know who I am. I chose this road. It’s cost me my life and freedom.”

Casey and Vicky’s escape is revisited in an episode of ABC’s 20/20 titled Catch Us If You Can.
