An unsettled childhood
Todd Kohlhepp was born on March 7, 1972, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
His parents divorced when he was young, which led to him being raised by his mother and a stepfather who he disliked.
Reportedly, Kohlhepp was aggressive to other children at nursery and displayed cruelty towards animals from a young age.
Eventually, he was sent to a psychiatric hospital in Georgia for three and a half months because he was unable to get along with any of his classmates.
In 1983, he was sent to live with his father who taught him how to make bombs and encouraged him to collect weapons.
Kohlhepp’s father was largely absent and had several girlfriends, whilst raising his son.
Kohlhepp’s first major crime
On November 25, 1986, Kohlhepp kidnapped Kristie Granado in Temp, Arizona.
He threatened her with a gun before attacking her at his own home.
Afterwards, Kohlhepp walked the then-14-year-old Kristie home and threatened to kill her family, if she revealed his crime.
However, Kristie went to the police which led to Kohlhepp’s arrest.

He was charged with kidnapping, sexual assault and committing a dangerous crime against children.
Kohlhepp pleaded guilty to the first charge, but the other charges were eventually dropped.
He was sentenced to fifteen years in prison and was put on the sex offender’s register before also being diagnosed with borderline personality disorder.
Career success
After 14 years in prison, Kohlhepp was released in 2001 and moved to South Carolina.
He slowly began to build a career after lying about his felony charge to get a real estate license.
The kidnapper soon became one of the top sellers in the Carolina region and even acquired a private plane license.
He was also able to buy guns with the help of a man named Dustan Lawson, who bought 12 guns and five silencers for Kohlhepp.

Kohlhepp’s murder rampage
On November 6, 2006, a customer found four people dead inside a motorcycle shop in Chesnee.
Unbeknownst to the authorities at the time, Kohlhepp was behind the attack.
The victims were identified as the shop’s manager, his mother, the shop’s service manager and the mechanic.
Each person had been shot to death.
Years later, on August 31, 2016, Kala Brown and her boyfriend Charles David Carver went missing at one of Kohlhepp’s properties.
Their disappearance became national news when bizarre posts began to appear on Charles’ Facebook account, which suggested that someone might be impersonating him.
Kala was eventually rescued by police on November 3, 2016, when she was discovered in a metal storage container near the property.
She claimed that she witnessed Kohlhepp shoot her boyfriend simply because he was “mad at her”.
Two more bodies were discovered on Kohlhepp’s property following his arrest on November 6.
They were identified as Johnny Joe Coxie and his wife Meagan Leigh McCraw-Coxie.

Kohlhepp’s twisted Amazon account
Kohlhepp confessed to the murders of the Coxies and the attack at the motorcycle store.
An investigation uncovered a series of sinister reviews left by the killer on Amazon.
He often left reviews for products including padlocks, shovels, gun accessories and tasers under an account simply named “me”.
The reviews often included bizarre jokes.
One review of a padlock read: “Solid locks.. have 5 on a shipping container.. won’t stop them.. but sure will slow them down til they are too old to care.”
The account was able to be linked to the killer through its wishlist, which named the user as Todd Kohlhepp.

The killer faces justice
After his arrest, Kohlhepp told his mother that the Coxies, the motorcycle store workers and Charles were just a few of his victims.
When she asked him about just how many people he had murdered, he replied: “You do not have enough fingers.”
On May 26, 2027, the killer pleaded guilty to seven counts of murder, two counts of kidnapping and one count of criminal sexual assault.
He was sentenced to seven consecutive life sentences without the possibility of parole after a plea bargain spared him from the death penalty.
A woman named Holly Eudy was having an affair with Kohlhepp during his crime spree, but claimed that she had no idea about what was really happening.
Instead, she simply felt that something “didn’t sit right” with her.
