England boss Thomas Tuchel named Kane in his squad for the visit of Wales and for the World Cup qualifier away at Latvia on Tuesday 14.

But the Bayern Munich striker will NOT feature against the Dragons and he could also miss the trip to Riga next week.

SunSport can reveal why Harry Kane is not playing against Wales.

Why is Harry Kane not playing against Wales?

Kane is absent tonight due to an ankle injury that he sustained while playing for Bayern Munich at the weekend.

Tuchel explained in his pre-match press conference that it would be to big a risk to play him.

The manager said: “Harry will miss the game.

“He got a kick in his last game and it is too risky he gets another kick.

“We gave him the chance that everything calms down and we are hopeful he will be ready for Latvia.”

Due to the knock to his ankle, Kane trained away from his team-mates yesterday.

Bayer Leverkusen centre-back Jarell Quansah also underwent individual training because of a minor injury issue.

Who will captain England instead of Harry Kane?

Tuchel confirmed that one of Jordan Henderson, John Stones or Declan Rice will lead the Three Lions against Wales.

All three have worn the armband before.

Marcus Rashford is the only other player in the squad to have captained England before.

The Barcelona ace, who is on loan from Manchester United, was England skipper under Gareth Southgate for a 1-0 win over Romania in 2021.
