Why Net Zero hits Brits in the pocket, bankrupts the nation but barely does anything for the environment

IS there anybody left in the country who agrees with Ed Miliband about Net Zero?

And if, as seems likely, there isn’t, then why the hell is he still in charge of our country’s energy policy?

Isn’t it time we had someone who was kinda vaguely rational? Someone who doesn’t live in Rivendell with all those elves?

The Chancellor, Rachel Reeves, was in the US last week. And she made it absolutely clear what she thought about Ed’s Net Zero stuff.

She said it was important. Yes, very important. Incredibly so. But not a priority, frankly. The priority is economic growth, not reducing our emissions.

No Christmas card from Ed this year, I suspect.

Then we had those power cuts in Spain and Portugal. There has been speculation they were caused by exactly the policies Mr Ed is pursuing — ditching the horrid carbon fuels and relying on wind and solar.

Trouble is, you CAN’T rely on the wind. Sometimes it blows, sometimes it doesn’t blow. Sometimes it blows too hard and the turbines kind of go out on strike, annoyed at having to work in such gusty weather.

Wind turbines are most definitely not the answer to our climate crisis.

Then, as if this wasn’t enough, Tony Blair weighed in.

Now, I have my reservations about ol’ Tone. I think launching an illegal invasion of Iraq and causing a civil war for a dozen years is probably the most stupid — and criminal — act of any PM we’ve had.

But on some domestic issues he was very sound. And he certainly understood the way ordinary people were thinking.

He has written the foreword to a report on energy policy. And the message to Mr Ed could not be clearer.

He said of Net Zero that people “feel they’re being asked to make financial sacrifices and changes in lifestyle when they know the impact on global emissions is minimal”.
Well, exactly.

And when China and India (and Australia, incidentally) are churning out more and more emissions every year, the only result of us making minuscule reductions just for show is to impoverish the people and bankrupt the nation.

Blair added: “Though most people will accept that climate change is a reality caused by human activity, they’re turning away from the politics of the issue because they believe the proposed solutions are not founded on good policy.”

And he hit the nail on the head by saying that any strategy based on phasing out fossil fuels in the short term was “bound to fail”. Yes, of course we have to loosen our dependency on fossil fuels. And to that end we need more investment and research in fusion power and photovoltaics.

Plus, we should commit to building small, compact, nuclear reactors up and down our coasts.

That is investing in safe and clean energy production for the medium term, while we develop even cleaner alternatives.

But Ed won’t have it. And I think his days are numbered.

Because sooner or later Sir Keir will realise that Net Zero is one of the biggest turn-offs on the electoral map. The people hate it. They understand climate change, but they don’t think this is the way to tackle it.

And when Sir Keir grasps that this is a BIG issue, Ed Miliband will mercifully be gone. Snuffed out like a cigarette end in a cold cup of coffee.

THE next big test for the Government is whether it caves in to the teaching unions.

Sir Keir and co have already bankrupted us by giving huge pay increases to the doctors and the train drivers.

The teachers want more than the 2.8 per cent the Government has budgeted for.

Stay firm, please. Not a penny extra.

ASYLUM JUDGES CIRCUS

AT long last someone is taking a bit of an interest in our dreadful immigration judges.

I’ve been banging on about this for yonks. These are the people who stop us deporting criminal asylum seekers for stupid reasons. Such as their families might be cross with them, or their kids can’t buy chicken nuggets in their home countries.

Many of these judges are pro-immigrant activists. Worse still, some of them have jobs REPRESENTING asylum seekers.

It’s a circus, and it has to stop.

Now the Conservative Party has been investigating them. And Shadow Justice Secretary Robert Jenrick is on the warpath.

He said: “If a judge’s record of activism means they would be expected to recuse themselves from hearing certain cases, their position is untenable.

“Their apparent conflicts of interests are otherwise a clear breach of the judicial code of conduct.”

Quite right. Get rid, now.

It’s no use leaving the European Convention on Human Rights if we’re still left with these bozos making the decisions.

KICK UP A STINK

YOU know when you’re walking down a high street and are suddenly struck by this appalling sickly stench? So bad you feel like gagging?

Yep, you’ve just walked past one of Lush’s hideous soap ’n’ cosmetic shops.

They’re very right on, Lush. And now it’s been revealed that they put pro-trans propaganda in bags given to children.

Idiotic stuff alleging that the media encourages violence against trans people and other assorted idiocies.

So next time you smell that awful reek, be brave. Holding two fingers over your nose for safety, put your head inside the store and shout: “Stop talking s***e to the kids, you jessies!”

And then continue with your day, perhaps stopping off at Greggs.

Diversity mural? That’ll fix those train delays

PAAvanti West Coast trains are splashing out on diversity murals rather than improving punctuality[/caption]

LUCKY passengers using Avanti West Coast trains now have another reason to splash out an extortionate sum on their tickets.

One of the trains has been covered from top to bottom in a mural, pictured, of happy ethnic minority people.

The huge image is called “Together We Roll”. Isn’t that lovely?

And how brave of Avanti to spend money on that.

Rather than on improving their punctuality, which last year was one of the worst for any rail company in the UK.

A POOR MARK

OH dear. Do you think we’d better tell the Canadians about Mark Carney?

They’ve just elected him PM.
Carney,, was the boss of the Bank of England for a while, if you remember. And he was about as useful as a stack of cabbages.

He got the vote because Canada is worried about Donald Trump. The Canadians were set to vote for a conservative.

Until Trump opened his mouth and told the Canadians they ought to become the 51st state.

Or 52nd after Greenland. Poor old Canada.
