Woman, 27, who died falling from moving van in Wakefield is named as locals describe ‘panic’ & cops plea for info

A 27-YEAR-OLD woman who died after falling from a moving van has been named with cops urgently pleading for more information.

Leah Senior plunged from a white Ford Transit van travelling on a 40mph road in Wakefield, West Yorkshire, on Wednesday.

Despite the best efforts of paramedics, Leah, from Huddersfield, died from her injuries at the scene.

The male driver of the van, 25, was arrested by police on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and drug driving offences.

Cops confirmed he was released on bail pending further enquiries.

West Yorkshire Police today appealed for witnesses and dash-cam footage over the incident, which took place between 8.20pm and 8.45pm near to the junction with Hollin Lane.

More than 30 emergency service workers converged on the scene, in the Calder Grove area of Wakefield, including paramedics.

A police forensic tent could be seen erected in the road where Leah died.

Locals described scenes of “panic” and “shock”. One woman told local media: “I saw police put up a tent and knew it was a fatality. It’s disgusting.

“I don’t know what’s coming to the world. It’s really horrible to think about.”

Detective Superintendent Marc Bowes of the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team, said: “We are continuing to conduct extensive enquiries into this incident in which a woman has lost her life.

“Anyone who can assist enquiries is asked to contact police on 101 referencing log 1604 of January 17.”
