Details of what happened at the store on Lynn Road in Swaffham town centre are still unconfirmed, but Norfolk Police say the woman was in her 50s.

Cops added that they are working with the Health and Safety Executive to figure out the cause of her death.

Her next of kin has been informed, said Norfolk Police.

Police officers and forensic teams were seen scouring the premises for evidence.

Four days on, a sign on the door said the business remained closed and referred customers to a telephone number.

The Co-Op, which opened the funeral parlour five years ago, has not yet commented on the incident.

A Norfolk Police spokesperson said: “Police can confirm a woman has died following an industrial incident in Swaffham.

“Emergency services including the air ambulance were called to a business in Market Place shortly after midday today (Friday 1 December 2023) following reports there had been an incident involving a woman in her 50s.

“Sadly the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Officers are working with the local authority to establish the circumstances that lead to the woman’s death.

“The woman’s next of kin has been informed.”
