West Midlands Police placed a cordon around the secluded lake near the Thimblemill Recreation Centre after a woman’s body was pulled from the water.
Despite the best efforts of ambulance crews, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Her death is not being treated as suspicious.
A spokesperson for the force said: “The body of a woman was found in water near Thimblemill Road at around 1.15pm yesterday afternoon (15 July).
“Her death is not being treated as suspicious and will be referred to the coroner.
“Our thoughts are with the woman’s family and friends.”
West Midlands Ambulance Service said that the fire service had been called in to assist in retrieving the woman’s body.
A spokesman for the service said: “We were called to an incident off Thimblemill Road in Smethwick just before 1pm (15 July).
“We sent an ambulance, a paramedic officer, a MERIT trauma doctor with critical care paramedic and the Trust’s Hazardous Response Team (HART) to the scene.
“On arrival, crews found a woman in the water who was pulled from the water with the assistance of fire service colleagues.
“Sadly, it quickly became clear she could not be saved and was confirmed dead at the scene.”
It comes just days after 16-year-old Daniel Drewitt drowned after going missing in a lake in Sutton Park, Birmingham, on July 10.
His body was recovered by emergency crews at around 10pm, following an extensive search of Powell’s Pool.
Despite the best efforts of paramedics, Daniel was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
Last week, his family released a touching tribute to the teenager who had a “beautiful spirit”.
They said: “Daniel was a handsome, funny and talented boy who really cared about his friends and family.
“Everyone wanted to be his friend and he was popular because of the beautiful spirit he had.
“Daniel was a big Birmingham City Football Club fan and would love going to the games with his grandad and friends.
“He had so many dreams and aspirations, and he had his whole life ahead of him.
“He has been taken from us way too soon and we still can’t process what is happening right now.”
