Scholes, 50, appeared on the Fan Debate on Sky as fans spoke about Myles Lewis-Skelly‘s imitation of Erling Haaland.
When asked why Maupay did not get the same criticism as the Arsenal star for his antics, Scholes gave a five-word answer.
He joked: “He just takes the p**s.”
Maupay hit the headlines when he copied James Maddison‘s darts-throwing celebration in January 2024.
The imitation led to a clash between the two players on the pitch after the full-time whistle.
But Maupay has remained active on social media and was quick to fire back at Scholes.
He made a brutal jibe about the time the retired midfielder was filmed chewing his daughter’s toenails.
He wrote: “Surprised Paul Scholes can fit my name in his mouth alongside his daughter’s toes.”

A second commented: “Ain’t no comeback to this.”
A third wrote: “World class, this Neal.”
A fourth said: “Bro is cooking!!”
Another added: “Neal Maupay on a generational run.”
Maupay earned a reputation as one of the most disliked players during his spell in the Premier League.
He is now in France with Ligue 1 side Marseille on loan from Everton.
