Meanwhile, the Scots dismantled Romania last weekend to keep their knockout hopes alive.
It also meant that both teams could still qualify, but a lot of things have to fall into place.
How can Scotland AND Ireland both qualify?
South Africa are currently top of Pool B on 15 points having played all four of their group fixtures, while Ireland sit in second with 14 points and Ireland just behind on ten.
Should the three teams finish level on 15 points, the team with the best points difference will finish top of the group and runners-up goes to the side that won the match between those two remaining nations.
In this case, a Scotland win by 21 points or more would see Gregor Townsend’s men snatch top spot ahead of the holders South Africa.
And Ireland would qualify as they beat South Africa in their earlier Pool B encounter.
However, if the Scots fail to win by such a margin, then South Africa finish top on points difference leaving Scotland to progress on the head-to-head rule.
What are the current Pool B rankings?
