A WOMAN has been shot by US Border Patrol agents in Chicago as anti-ICE protests escalate and tensions rise.

The Department of Homeland Security said that ‘defensive shots’ were fired on Saturday morning in Brighton Park after agents were “rammed by 10 cars” and “boxed in”.

The federal agents were “unable to move their vehicles and exited the car,” Spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin wrote on X.

She said that patrolling agents opened fire when they found a woman driving one of the vehicles was “armed with a semi-automatic weapon”.

The woman, who is a US citizen, was taken to hospital for treatment in a fair condition, the Chicago Fire Department said.

She was known to law enforcement, McLaughlin added.

She had previously been identified in a Border Protection bulletin for publicly identifying federal agents and urging people to target them and disrupt law enforcement efforts, the spokeswoman claimed.

No members of law enforcement were harmed in the incident.

Tensions in the area have been brewing for weeks now with at least 18 protestors arrested outside the Broadview Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility near Chicago on Friday night.
