CHELSEA have beaten Benfica 4-1 to reach the Club World Cup quarter-finals.
Just past the hour mark, Reece James broke the deadlock after his clever free-kick flew past Anatoliy Trubin.
With minutes to go, the match was suspended due to extreme weather conditions in the area.
After a two-hour delay, Angel Di Maria netted his fourth penalty of the tournament to take the tie to extra time.
Immediately as the additional period began, Gianluca Prestianni was shown a second yellow card to send Benfica down to ten.
A devastating second half of extra time followed as Christopher Nkunku, Pedro Neto and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall got on the scoresheet to secure a 4-1 win for the Blues.
Chelsea will now play Palmeiras in the quarter-finals on July 4.
