His wife Evanir Verri was in the passenger seat at the time of the accident.

The couple, who were supposedly coming home after visiting family, were rushed to hospital.

But they both miraculously suffered just minor injuries and were discharged a day later.

Dunga‘s son Bruno thanked doctors and members of the public for their help.

He said in a statement: “To everyone who was concerned and supported the family; to the truck driver who immediately helped with first aid and to the Angelina Caron Hospital, where we were very well looked after by the team.”

Police say the the former midfielder was not under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash.

And cops believe the accident may have occurred due to the road surface, which was slippery after heavy rain.

Dunga has legendary status in Brazil as he captained his country to 1994 World Cup glory.
