A friend of the pair called the emergency services around midnight begging for help after finding the 66-year-old woman’s body.

Police rushed round to the apartment to find the victim dead inside with a vacuum cable around her neck, local reports said.

The alleged killer is said to have confessed to carrying out the murder after she was handcuffed and taken away by cops.

The vacuum lead was taken away by forensic experts so they could test it for DNA.

An initial post-mortem has confirmed she was strangled to death.

A spokesman for National Police said: “A woman aged 64 has been arrest on suspicion of killing another 66-year-old woman, both from the UK.

“The investigation is ongoing and at the moment we can’t give out any more information.”

A witness statement was also gathered at the scene from the women who called the police.

Detectives are yet to confirm the relationship between the two women or their names.

Both were staying in the apartment in Benidorm’s so-called Little England at the time.

The area is said to be very popular with Brit tourists in the summer months.

It is unclear if the Brit woman will go before a judge.

A court has been placed in charge of the ongoing criminal investigation as they await a full police report.

It comes two weeks after a British pilot drowned off a Benidorm beach after getting into difficulties at sea.

Robbie Conington, 30, lost contact with his friends after he took an evening dip in the sea with two friends late at night.

The alarm was raised around 8.30pm last Friday by witnesses who said they had seen one of the three men being swept out by the choppy waters.

Coastguards were called in to search for the missing man before his body was discovered later that night near Benidorm’s Sailing Club.
