JOSE MOURINHO has been confirmed as the new manager of Benfica.
The Primeira Liga side opened talks with Mourinho earlier this week following the dismissal of Bruno Lage.

Lage was axed just hours after the club’s 3-2 Champions League defeat to Qarabag on Tuesday.
Now, legendary boss Mourinho has been tasked with reviving the campaign.
The 62-year-old arrived in Lisbon this afternoon to become the new Benfica head coach.
He drove to his first press conference in a black Ferrari with a police escort.
Mourinho has penned a two-year deal with Benfica, but he and the club have the option to end the deal 10 days after the final game of the 2025-26 season.
Benfica are currently sixth in the Primeira Liga table with 10 points from four games.
The Portuguese side were linked with a swoop for struggling Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim last week.
Joao Noronha Lopes, who is the leading candidate to become the next president of Benfica, was at the Manchester derby on Sunday with close friend Nuno Gomes.
Gomes also recently told the media: “Ruben Amorim is the coach of Manchester United so I can’t answer the questions.
“One thing I know, Ruben Amorim will be the coach of Benfica one day.
“Joao has already shown in recent years that he is capable of changing Benfica, to make it greater and different from what it has been in recent years.”
