Tyler Robinson‘s friends laughed at the resemblance he bore to the young man in the image – appearing to be unaware he was the wanted man.

But the forum soon lit up with tasteless humour and deflection, The New York Post reported.

One pal tagged him in a post alongside the FBI photo with the caption “wya”, meaning “where you at?”, along with a skull emoji.

The 22-year-old alleged shooter soon messaged back, shamelessly joking that his “doppleganger” was on the run.

Robinson claimed it must be a look-alike trying to “get me in trouble”.

“Tyler killed Charlie!!!,” another user posted, according to The New York Times.

Robinson stands accused of shooting MAGA influencer Charlie Kirk in the neck while speaking at a student debate event in Utah on Wednesday.

Kirk was pronounced dead within a few hours, prompting widespread condemnation across the world and political spectrum.

His death prompted a days-long manhunt to find a suspect, with the FBI posting a $100,000 reward.

But over on the Discord group, members joked about turning Robinson in to try and claim the cash.

“Only if I get a cut,” Robinson retorted.

But the twisted humour in the group only continued to take a darker turn.

“Whatever you do, don’t go to a mcdonalds anytime soon,” one friend quipped.

This appears to be a reference to the arrest of Luigi Mangione, who was apprehended at a McDonald’s restaurant.

Mangione was charged with the killing of a health insurance boss in Manhattan.

Robinson replied in agreement and added that he had “better also get rid of this manifesto and exact copy rifle I have lying around”.

He went on the mock the FBI’s investigation into the circumstances around Kirk’s death.

Several news outlets had reported that ammunition found near a rifle had “transgender ideology” engraved on it, but this claim was later walked back.

An FBI press conference later confirming messages including “hey fascist! CATCH!” and references to an Italian anti-fascist song were etched onto the bullets.

One neighbour has since claimed Robinson was living with an unidentified partner – who is understood to be co-operating with the investigation.

Robinson was arrested on Thursday night in Utah after his father turned him in to the authorities.

He was identified as the suspect by multiple sources the following day, which was confirmed at an FBI press conference.

Following the arrest, his friends on Discord expressed disbelief that he was actually the wanted man.

“I truly cannot distinguish if this is for real,” one said.
