Chelsea gem Moises Caicedo now leads Dream Team for both tackles and bonus points

THREE Chelsea players were among the five most popular recruits ahead of Gameweek 4 but Moises Caicedo (£4.5m) was not one of them.

Many Dream Team managers eagerly recruited Joao Pedro (£4.9m), Trevoh Chalobah (£4.3m) and/or Enzo Fernandez (£4.9m) ahead of the Blues’ trip to Brentford but it was the Ecuadorian midfielder who produced a 14-point haul — only Erling Haaland (£7.6m) and Martin Zubimendi (£3.7m) earned more over the weekend.

Enzo Maresca’s side were heartbroken but a stoppage-time equaliser from Fabio Carvalho (£2.8m) but from a Dream Team perspective, Caicedo’s performance, alongside Cole Palmer’s (£5.7m) successful return to action, grabbed the headlines.

The 23-year-old must have thought he’d won the game when his clean strike found the net in the 85th minute, his second goal of the campaign.

Dream Team bosses should not expect shed-loads of goals from Caicedo as that’s far from his main responsibility, he’s yet to score 20 in his career from over 250 appearances for club and country.

But he’s shaping up to be a useful asset even if the goals dry up.

Caicedo is the only player to have earned nine bonus points at the time of writing — his unmatched ability to intercept the ball being the primary factor.

Furthermore, no player has made more tackles at this stage.

With many strings to his bow, Caicedo has amassed 37 points in total, putting him joint-fourth in the overall rankings.

Even more impressive is the fact he boasts the highest points-per-game average (9.3) among midfielders.

It would be unrealistic to expect a defensive-minded player to maintain such lofty status but he simply has to be considered a viable option at present.

Caicedo may have to make even more tackles and interceptions than usual if Chelsea are to take a point or three from Bayern Munich on Wednesday night.

But the rest of September could yield more healthy returns with Manchester United, Lincoln City, Brighton and Benfica to come across Gameweeks 5 and 6.

Gaffers have been spoiled for choice in regards to Stamford Bridge residents so far.

The aforementioned Fernandez, Chalobah and Pedro are all among the most successful performers in their respective positions (now joined by Caicedo) with Marc Cucurella (£5m) not far off either.

With Palmer having scored off the bench against the Bees, he too will be considered a tempting option once again.
