A spokesperson for Lancashire Police said: “We are pleased to say that he has been arrested this morning (Monday, Oct 2).

“He will now be recalled to prison.

“We would like to thank everyone who has come forward with information over the last couple of days.

“Your extra eyes and ears really can make a massive difference to the work we do to keep you and your communities safe.”

Pennington was jailed in 2009 for the rape of a child and is a registered sex offender.

Last year he was again jailed for breaches of a sexual harm prevention order.

The force launched the hunt for Pennington on Saturday after he failed to comply with his licence conditions.

Police stated the convicted child rapist was a “high-risk sex offender” and is being recalled to prison.
