CYNDI Lauper’s son was arrested on Wednesday night after police responded to a shooting in New York City.
A shooting in Harlem was reported to police around 7:15 pm with authorities finding a 24-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg.

The music legend’s son, Declyn “Dex” Lauper, was found in possession of a loaded gun as police were canvassing for evidence.
The 26-year-old was charged with criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of a controlled substance, however, he wasn’t charged in the shooting.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
The shooting victim was also charged with criminal possession of a weapon and was taken to Mount Sinai Morningside, where he is in stable condition.
Lauper had previous run-ins with police such as in 2022, when he admitted to disorderly conduct after being arrested in a stolen Mercedes.
He appeared in court that October to face a charge of felony unauthorized use of a vehicle.
He pleaded guilty and was ordered to complete five days of private community service and “stay out of trouble,” reported the New York Post.
“It’s definitely a blessing the case is over,” he told the outlet as he left the courtroom with his father, actor David Thornton.
Like his mother, Lauper has his own musical ventures.
“It’s more underground,” his mother told Vanity Fair last year. “He’s on SoundCloud and he’s a terrific artist.”
Under the name Dex Lauper, he’s released several songs, including a collaboration with rapper G-Eazy.
He hinted last summer that he would be releasing new music.
Lauper has supported his mother’s career over the years, most recently when he attended the 2023 Tribeca Film Festival as she premiered her documentary, Let the Canary Sing.
One of his first red carpet-appearances was in 2019 when he attended an afterparty for The Celebrity Apprentice season 3, which starred Cyndi.
He has also accompanied her at the 2011 Grammy Awards, the Broadway opening night for Kinky Boots, and the 2021 MTV Video Music Awards.
“People said I was so career-driven, but once the kid came, I looked at how I can support everything: make a record, tour—and my husband would say, ‘Go to Europe, I’ve got him,’” Lauper told Vanity Fair.
“I took my son on tour sometimes, but he needed his own space.”
