Cops are now probing the death in the Nevada desert and treating it as a homicide.
The horror discovery was made while the “Man” – a huge wooden sculpture at the centre of the annual event – was being set ablaze, police said.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
His body was taken from the makeshift festival ground dubbed “Black Rock City” to the Washoe County Medical Examiner’s Office.
The sheriff’s office confirmed on Sunday that authorities had found “a single white adult male lying on the ground, obviously deceased”.
Several Burning Man visitors were quizzed by cops, who also cordoned off an area at the horror scene.
Local police, land management authorities and even Burning Man’s own Black Rock Rangers all helped create the perimeter.
The sheriff’s office said: “Although this act appears to be a singular crime, all participants should always be vigilant of their surroundings and acquaintances.
“This process is still ongoing, and the portion of the ‘City’ where this occurred will have heavy law enforcement presence until the scene can be released.”
The art and music festival was taking place in the northwest of the desert.
It began last Sunday and is set to end on Monday.
Burning Man organizers said they were cooperating with cops to help with the investigation.
“The Pershing County Sheriff’s Office will be the primary source of further information,” festival organiszers said.
“If you are in Black Rock City, do not interfere with law enforcement activity.”
Tens of thousands of people gather in the Black Rock Desert every year to attend the beloved event.
It is famous for mixing wilderness camping with highly experimental performances.
One of the clearest examples of these avant-garde performances is the torching of a large wooden effigy of a human male.
