THREE teenagers have been arrested after a 14-year-old girl was stabbed in a park.
Cops raced to a housing estate in Whittington after locals reportedly heard screaming coming from a Shropshire park at 7.40pm on Sunday.
Three young girls, all aged 14, were arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and currently remain in police custody.
The victim was rushed to hospital where she is being treated for serious injuries, but they are not believed to be life threatening.
West Mercia police have since launched an investigation into the incident.
Detective Inspector Sharon Wallace-Rathmell said: “I know this incident has shocked the local community, and I’d like to reassure you that we’re working hard to understand what happened.
“A scene guard remains in place this morning and there will continue to be a police presence in the area throughout the day while officers carry out enquiries.
“If anyone witnessed the incident or has any information which may help with our enquiries we’d ask you to please get in touch.”
A 29-year-old man told Worcester News: “It is quite shocking. You would not think anything would happen in such a quiet, friendly area.
“My partner heard screaming and a girl shout ‘get off me!’. I hope everybody involved is okay.”
Another local woman described the situation as petrifying.
