A hero dad-of-two killed after being hit by a falling tree during Storm Amy has been pictured as his son pays a heartbreaking tribute.

Paul Whitehead tragically died on Sunday afternoon in the small village of Upper Cumberworth, West Yorkshire.

It’s believed Paul was struck by a falling tree branch and despite receiving medical treatment at the scene, he sadly passed away.

His son Simon paid tribute to his “devoted” father who was “happily married” for 53 years to his wife, Joyce Whitehead.

“He always gave back to the community and strived to make the world a better place every single day, and went out doing just that.” he said.

“He was loved by all that had the privilege of knowing him and will be missed by us all. He was my hero”.

Paul’s death left the local community shocked and was described by one local as a “lovely fella”.

He was described as a central figure to the Upper Dearne Woodlands Conservation Group who manage the local woodland.
