POLICE have arrested over 400 people at this year’s Notting Hill Carnival with two festivalgoers horrifically also stabbed at the event.
The event kicked off on Sunday, with police using advanced Live Facial Recognition (LFR) technology to monitor the festival.

The first of the two stabbings occurred in Powis Terrace, with the second taking place in Oxford Gardens.
Met officers have confirmed that neither incident resulted life-threatening injuries.
Cops made a total of 423 arrests over the weekend, though the force admitted that it recorded “far fewer incidents of serious violence” this year compared to previous Carnivals.
This year’s event started on Sunday 24 and continued into the bank holiday Monday.
Met Police confirmed that 200 attendees were arrested on the first day of the festival, with 149 being taken into custody at the event and 51 being arrested on their way to the event.
The following day saw a total of 223 arrests, as of 7.45pm.
A total of 177 of those arrests took place at the Carnival itself, with an additional 46 being made on the approaches to the event.
Cops also revealed that 52 of these arrests were made using LFR technology.
Matt Ward, the policing commander for Notting Hill Carnival this year, said: “This year we have proactively targeted those who have attempted to come to Carnival to cause harm to others.
“We have used live facial recognition, knife arches and our stop and search powers to identify and arrest more than 400 suspects.
“These arrests have prevented some of the serious violence we have seen at previous Carnivals.
“We thank the organisers and others who spoke out in the days and weeks ahead of the event to emphasise what Carnival stands for, to reject violence and to urge anyone planning to come for conflict or confrontation to stay at home
“All of this joint effort has helped to make this this year’s Carnival a safer event for all.”
Police have unveiled the list of crimes committed at the festival, with possession of cannabis being the highest recorded offence.
A total of 70 cannabis offences were recorded over the weekend, along with 32 class A drug offences.
There were 46 offences involving the possession of an offensive weapon at the event, as well as 44 counts of supplying drugs.
The Carnival is one of the biggest events to take place in London, with millions of revellers celebrating Caribbean culture, while wearing incredible costumes.
Bands and floats representing the Caribbean, African and Brazilian diaspora can be spotted throughout the Notting Hill area in the largest celebration of its kind in Europe.
Attendees were in high spirits when the event began yesterday, with Maria James, 34, saying: “It feels like a piece of the Caribbean right here in London.”
James Lewis, 41, from Birmingham, added: “It’s amazing to see so many cultures coming together.”
Tom Bennett, the mayor of Kensington and Chelsea said that the event is one of the “greatest” in the world.
He said: “It’s one of the greatest street parties in the world… celebrating today Caribbean culture from dancing, music, costumes but also everything the Caribbean community has done in this borough and country.”
