JERMAIN DEFOE admits he’s ready to help Rangers in the club’s hour of need.

He was part of the caretaker staff appointed when Gerrard left the club and has since worked in Spurs’ academy after hanging up his boots.
Defoe, 42, revealed he would jump at the chance to return to Ibrox after Russell Martin and his backroom staff were fired on Sunday night.
He told Sky Sports News: “I’ve done all my coaching badges and if I got an opportunity to come back to that club to help this group of players then it would be a no-brainer.
“I said it from day one as soon as I retired. It’s well documented, the time I had there and winning arguably the most important league in the club’s history.
“Myself, Steven and all the boys did that and it was amazing to be a part of it. It’s more than just a football club and I think I understood what it was about.
“I understood when you put on a Rangers shirt you have to win and the demands and the standards.”
Meanwhile Gary McAllister hasn’t ruled out a return if he got the chance to team up with Gerrard again.
McAllister was No2 under Gerrard and said: “That’s a big question. You never say never do you?
“We had a wonderful time there. Steven did an amazing job to get that 55th title.
“There have been three or four managerial changes since we left and he’s always going to be linked with Glasgow Rangers.
“He loved his time up there. He’s been out of the game for six or seven months so you never know what could happen.”
For Kris Boyd, the ideal man for the job is current Hearts boss Derek McInnes.
