The MPSV07 naval ship was reportedly conducting electronic reconnaissance when its equipment was obliterated by a Ukrainian drone.
Russia has four of these intelligence vessels, which it deploys to gather intelligence on Ukraine.
In a statement, the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine said: “The MPSV07 project ship is equipped with diving complexes, remotely operated vehicles, a side-scan sonar, and electronic warfare means.”

It was “put out of action for expensive repairs”, reports added.
This is the latest defeat for Vlad as Ukraine turns the Black Sea into a graveyard for his pride-and-joy fleet — using drones, missiles and stealthy commandos instead of frigates and destroyers.
According to former intelligence officer Philip Ingram Russia’s “naval dominance is being challenged like never before” as a video released yesterday showed Ukraine’s drone operators and special forces battering occupied Crimea.
Ingram explained how Ukraine’s attacks have crippled Russia’s radar systems, command posts and even its GLONASS satellite network.
These are “difficult for Russia to repair” and have a massive impact on its ability to coordinate across the theatre, he said in this week’s explosive episode of Battle Plans Exposed,
The pressure is so relentless that Sevastopol — once the pride of Russia’s fleet — is no longer safe.
“A series of audacious Ukrainian attacks has made it a very dangerous place for the Russian Navy,” Ingram noted, with vessels dispersed to Novorossiysk and even a makeshift base in Georgia’s breakaway region of Abkhazia.
It comes as the U.N. Security Council said today it will hold an emergency meeting to discuss the violation of Polish airspace after 19 Russian drones sailed across the Polish border.
Prime Minister Donald Tusk said four were shot down by Nato fighter jets – taking the country to the “closest to conflict since WW2”.
Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski told local radio: “(We are) drawing the worlds attention to this unprecedented Russian drone attack on a member of the UN, EU, and NATO.
“I have appeared before the UN (Security) Council in the past, and it seems to me that our arguments have been convincing.”
Russia has denied its involvement, while one Polish official claimed the drones had come from the direction of Ukraine.
Tusk vowed to modernise his country’s military in an address to Polish troops at an air base in the central city of Lask.
He praised their quick actions and those of the Nato allied forces in response to Russia’s drone incursion.
Poland expects to receive its first F-35 fighter jets from the US next year, he added, as Europe teeters on the brink of war.
It will be the first delivery of some of the 32 aircrafts expected by 2030.
Tusk said: “We will do everything to ensure that our allied obligations, which are so important from our point of view today, are fulfilled by our allies.”
It comes as the UK government said more Brit troops could be deployed to Poland to bolster Nato’s eastern flank against Russia’s rising threat.
Nato has vowed to defend “every inch” of allied land and the UK yesterday vowed it would step up to meet Putin’s “test”.
Defence Secretary John Healey condemned Russia’s “reckless, dangerous and unprecedented” escalation after meeting with E5 defence officials from Germany, France and Italy – with Poland‘s defence minister diverted by the crisis.
