It’s ironic how so many of those involved in Pro-Palestine protests benefit from our tolerance

THE Silent Majority spoke for Britain on Armistice Day, not the screaming mob who brawled at the foot of Whitehall’s hallowed Cenotaph.

Sirens and whistles brought millions of shoppers, sports fans, dog walkers and decent ordinary citizens to a halt with caps doffed in respect for the Glorious Dead of two world wars and more.

It is more than ironic that many of those on pro-Palestine marches have benefited from the tolerance which attracted them to the UK in the first place

We were witnessing a dignified two-fingered salute to the howling 300,000 pro-Palestine banner wavers who went ahead with their march in defiance of the Prime Minister and the police.

Sadly, there were fewer poppies on display on Saturday after the intimidating scenes of British Legion volunteers being surrounded by anti-Israel mobs.

Still, the momentous cease-fire which silenced the guns 105 years ago only served to expose the fraudulent clamour for Israeli surrender while Hamas continues to hold 242 Israelis hostage.

Armistice Day 1918 marked an honourable peace.

A cease-fire in Gaza would be fouled instantly by Hamas killers determined to carry on killing.

It is more than ironic that many of those on the march have benefited from the tolerance and rule of law which attracted them to this country in the first place.

Yet now some seem willing to undermine the very ties which bind this country together.

The simple fact is that Saturday’s march should never have taken place — not on the say-so of police but on the conscience of those who set out to inflame public dismay.

Instead of solemn wreath-laying we saw a calculated snub to the King of England, to the British people and to their democratically elected government.

This act of defiance predictably spilled into violence against police.

It was a calculated, predictable — and predicted — red rag to drunken right-wing thugs spoiling for a fight.

Lefties are calling absurdly for the head of Suella Braverman, who dared suggest police were cowed by shows of force.

After their brutal disruption of the Sarah Everard murder vigil and the callow surrender to Black Lives Matter protests, even the police know she was right.

Far from getting rid of this outspoken Home Secretary, we need more like her in government.

Instead we seem doomed to endure these huge confrontations indefinitely as police stand by and pretend they are “mostly peaceful”.

Under any interpretation, Suella was right to say that these are “hate marches”.

Some of those taking part may be useful idiots, who know nothing about Gaza, Hamas or even Armistice Day.

Many have no idea about the Holocaust murders of six million Jews or the 1,400 slaughtered by Hamas just a few weeks ago.

Gormless gay protesters wave “Queers for Palestine” banners, apparently unaware they would be thrown in jail or pushed off a tall building immediately if they fell into the hands of Hamas.

Dodgy past

Women join in, blithely ignorant that females are treated as chattels.

Yet in this context, ignorance is strength.

Our confusion over racism, sexism, gender wars and white imperialism is a gift to extremists.

Behind the many well-intentioned marchers there are scores of hard-nosed Hamas sympathisers for whom the lives and liberty of infidels are worthless.

Meanwhile, the Met is stuffed with young cops reared on identity politics who sympathise with eco-loons and trans rights protesters rather than with the impartial rule of law.

Police chiefs and politicians offer precious little support.

Many Tories facing annihilation at the polls have simply given up.

Will a Labour government under Sir Keir Starmer offer a solution?

Don’t hold your breath.

Just remember Labour is the party of open borders, human rights overkill, hate crime and the calamity known as multi-culturalism.

Despite flabby Tory attempts to catch up over 14 years, Labour is the source and inspiration for these open borders, bloated welfare, class-room chaos and the decriminalisation of drugs, knives, car theft and all crime short of “hate” crime.

Sir Keir Starmer may be standing firm on Israel, but can he be trusted once in office?

He has a dodgy past, given his support of Jeremy Corbyn, who failed to tackle anti-Semitism running rampant through the Labour party.

Things can only get better?

Just hold that thought for the next 12 months.

David: ‘Stop the guns’

EX-wannabe Labour leader David Miliband has called for a partial ceasefire in Gaza.

But what about Ed, who beat his brother to the job in 2010 and is best known for mauling a bacon butty on camera and for burying the UK in “green crap”?

Ed has called for a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas – but not since another flare-up in 2014.

He has said nothing about the October 7 atrocities.

And despite being Jewish, has not repeated his position as a friend of Israel.

The silence is a worry to all those who love to hear his views.
