King’s Cross St Pancras station is closed after ‘flare set off in underground’ sparking mass evacuation of passengers

A MAJOR London trains station has closed because of a fire alert.

Several fire engines are currently outside King’s Cross station in north London.

Witnesses have reported “a strong smell of gas and smoke” from outside the busy international tarvel hub.

The underground station has also been closed.

A police officer at the scene said: “Someone has set off a flare in the underground and we’ve had to shut down the area.

“Firefighters are down there now.

“We don’t know when we’ll open the underground again.”

A TFL spokesperson said: “King’s Cross St. Pancras station is closed while we respond to a fire alert.”
