He is undergoing tests and treatments at a hospital, the club announced.

Mbappe, 26, was absent for Real’s 1-1 draw with Al-Hilal on Wednesday.

Symptoms of acute gastroenteritis include diarrhoea, vomiting, fever, loss of appetite and abdominal pain and cramping.

Real Madrid boss Xabi Alonso was asked about Mbappe’s condition following the clash with Al-Hilal.

He responded saying: “I don’t know if Mbappé will be back for the next game. We’ll see.

“He wasn’t doing well in the last two days. He’s sick.”

The France international is now a doubt for Real’s next match on Sunday against Mexican side Pachuca.

Alonso’s side end their group campaign against RB Salzburg.

Trent Alexander-Arnold made his Real debut against Al-Hilal and showed glimpses of his class before being taken off in the 65th minute.

The former Liverpool star spoke fluent Spanish at his unveiling but when asked how long he had been learning the language, he replied: “Not too long.

“A couple of months. It was something important that I had to do.

“I want to adapt and give myself the best start possible going to a new country, new city and new team.

“It is important to show the intent that I want to embrace the culture, immerse myself in it and try to adapt as best as possible.”
