IT WAS Sir Keir Starmer’s first PMQs as Prime Minister and Labour MPs were positively frothing with excitement.
Some keen beans even started queuing outside the Commons Chamber at 7.15am to nab a good seat.

But if they came to see the new heavyweight champion of British politics dole out some hulking blows on the Tories they were to be sorely disappointed.
Rishi Sunak kicked things off by welcoming the “cross-party consensus” on matters like Ukraine.
Purring, Sir Keir thanked him and hoped to “reach out across the House” to “maintain the unity”.
In a blink of an eye the exchange was over. No rows. No blows.
No character assassinations. What was going on?
PMQs is meant to be the closest thing politicians get to hand-to-hand combat.
But this felt more like a cosy afternoon tea party.
Let’s hope it gets a bit more exciting soon . . .
