NICOLAS HAMILTON escaped his car that had caught on FIRE at Silverstone on Sunday after a “scary moment.”
The Stevenage-born 33-year-old parked beside the Wellington Straight as an oil fire engulfed his Un-Limited Motorsport Cupra Leon on the 17th lap of 24.

Luckily Hamilton, who has cerebral palsy, was able to get out of the Cupra unaided, and the race continued with the other drivers circulating behind the safety car.
Smoke plumed out of the car as Hamilton walked away unscathed in the BTCC opener, which Dan Lloyd won.
He posted a snap of the dramatic pictures on Instagram with the caption: “What an amazing picture of a very disappointing and scary moment for me, my family and friends to start my Sunday at Silverstone.
“I was surprisingly very calm throughout the whole situation, trying to save the car from any further damage whilst keeping myself safe and I am so proud of myself on how I handled the situation.
“After yesterday’s fire, there is a question mark on whether I will be driving for the last round of the season at Brands Hatch next weekend,

“But if I don’t get the opportunity to finish the season off, I want to thank absolutely everyone for getting behind me this year.

In March, Hamilton made a stunning return to motorsport after almost two years out.
Hamilton was announced as a driver in the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) for Un-Limited Motorsport in a Cupra Leon as the team expanded to a third car for the season.
The younger half-brother of the seven-time Formula One champion had been without a seat for a season-and-a-half, a 20-month period.
He previously raced for Team Hard from 2021 to 2023 before the team collapsed in July 2023.
However, in an unexpected twist, he will now join fellow BTCC returnee Dexter Patterson and 2024 Mini Challenge runner-up Max Hall behind the wheel this season under team principal Bob Sharpless.
