A MAJOR UK motorway has closed after a “serious” crash involving a lorry and a motorbike.
The M6 has been forced to shut near Walsall, West Midlands, due to the horror smash this afternoon.
Traffic has ground to a halt on the M6 southbound near Walsall
Emergency services are assisting at the scene, between junction 10, for Walsall, and 11, for Shareshill, along the busy route.
National Highways confirmed patrols are currently turning southbound motorists around to follow the diversion.
The service said: “The M6 in the West Midlands remains closed southbound between J11 and J10 due to a serious collision involving a lorry and a motorcycle.
“Our Traffic Officers have now begun turning around traffic, which will be diverted via Hilton Park Services.“
West Midlands Ambulance said reports of the smash were received just before 3pm.
A spokesperson for the service said: “We were called to reports of a road traffic collision involving a lorry and a motorbike on the M6 Southbound between Junction 10 and 11 in Willenhall at 2.54pm.
“We sent an ambulance, two paramedic officers, a MERIT trauma doctor with a critical care paramedic and the WMAS Critical Care Car to the scene.”
