DRIVERS are facing massive rush hour delays on a major UK motorway following a serious collision.
The M61 in Greater Manchester has been closed southbound between the M6, J30, and the M65, J9 after a road traffic collision.
Emergency services scrambled to respond to the scene of the horror smash on the M61 earlier today.
Police, ambulance and fire crews are in attendance according to National Highways.
It remains unclear if there were any serious injuries in the collision.
The crash has caused traffic to build up on the approach to two more major motorways with drivers on the M6 and the M65 facing delays as a result.
Drivers have been warned to expect long delays in the wake of the crash.
Traffic is currently being managed at the scene by National Highways contractors.
Road users travelling southbound have been advised to follow the Solid Circle diversion symbol on road signs.
National Highways said: “If this closure impacts on your planned route, please allow extra journey time.
“Plan ahead, you may wish to re-route or even delay your journey.”
