MANCHESTER UNITED were reportedly “rebuffed immediately” in their attempts to sign Emiliano Martinez.

The Red Devils are in the market for a new goalkeeper following the injury to Andre Onana.

Martinez, 32, has long been linked with a switch to Old Trafford, but a deal appears to be far from close, according to the Daily Mail.

The report claims that Manchester United have made an offer to the Villans to take the Argentine stopper on loan.

However, this was met with disbelief from the West Midlands side as they “rebuffed it immediately” with “incredulity.”

Martinez only signed a long-term deal at Villa Park last summer that is set to run until 2029.

The club believe that there is “no gain” in letting their vice-captain move to Old Trafford on a temporary deal.

The goalkeeper was ironically sent off in Villa’s final game of the season against Man United.

However, he appeared to say his goodbyes to supporters, which suggests he wants a new challenge.

Villa have dropped a hint that they are prepared for a change between the sticks, having lined up Lucas Chevalier as a replacement.

Should Man United make another attempt to land the 2022 World Cup winner, they will have to stump up some cash.

The report states that Villa value Martinez at £40million.

The Red Devils could also turn their attention to Senne Lammens of Royal Antwerp.

It has been reported that talks have taken place for the shot-stopper with a potential £17m deal in the works.

Onana picked up a hamstring injury earlier this month and could miss the start of the season.

This currently leaves manager Ruben Amorim with just Tom Heaton and Altay Bayindir as senior options in goal.

Meanwhile, Man United have completed the £71m signing of Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford.

The Cameroonian forward becomes the third signing of the summer after Matheus Cunha and Diego Leon.

The club are far from being done in the market with reports claiming that three more positions are being targeted.

This includes in between the sticks as well as a defensive midfielder and a striker.
