The lawsuit was filed by Mark S Zuckerberg – a bankruptcy lawyer based in Indianapolis, Indiana, who claims that sharing a name with Facebook founder Mark E Zuckerberg has cost him cash.
He says that his verified personal account has been shut down five times between 2022 and 2025 as he’s been accused of impersonating the billionaire CEO.
This came despite him paying Meta $11,000 to run advertisements for his law firm’s Facebook page, the lawsuit claims.
“Normally you would say, well, it’s just Facebook and it’s not a big deal, but this time it’s affecting my bottom line because I was paying for advertising for my business to try and get clients,” he told the New York Post.
The lawyer has documented some of the other struggles with sharing the recognizable name on a website.
He says that one time the State of Washington accidentally sued him after officials mistook him for the tech founder, who was accused of endangering an adult in need of services.
The attorney also claims that his accounts are “constantly hacked” and that he’s lost bookings because potential clients think he is trying to play a prank.
Every time his account is shut down, Zuckerberg is forced to embark on a lengthy appeals process where he has to submit photos of himself, his license, and his credit cards.
The lawyer said he’s astonished that such a powerful company doesn’t have more advanced technology for actually finding bad actors.
“It’s like they’re almost doing it on purpose, but I’m sure they’re not but it feels like it,” he said.
The lawsuit, which was filed in Marion Superior Court on Tuesday, accuses Meta of negligence and breach of contract.
Meta has restored Zuckerberg’s account and said it is reviewing the complaint.
“We have reinstated Mark Zuckerberg’s account, after finding it had been disabled in error,” the company told The U.S. Sun.
Meta said it is working on solutions to prevent the mix-up from happening to more users in the future.

“When a Facebook scam promised money from ‘Mark Zuckerberg, ‘ I was inundated with calls and emails from strangers, receiving phone calls at all hours of the night.
“I receive over 100+ friend requests daily from people confusing me with the ‘other’ Mark Zuckerberg.
“I continually receive packages and letters containing complaints, suggestions, or demands for how to ‘improve Facebook’
“I receive phone calls at my office every day from angry people demanding tech support, or help with Facebook from resets to remove photos to locked accounts.
“I was removed from Nextdoor app for using a fake name.
“I routinely receive death threats and harassment on the Messenger app directed to the ‘other’ Mark Zuckerberg
“I get Venmo payment requests and money solicitations from total strangers.”

ZUCKERBERG’S WOES
Zuckerberg said that he has to turn off his phone every single night to avoid the flood of social media notifications he gets every day, he wrote on his website.
He said he also gets an influx of calls from strangers every day, and even into the middle of the night.
“I routinely receive death threats and harassment on the Messenger app directed to the ‘other Mark Zuckerberg,” he wrote.
The lawyer stressed that he doesn’t have any ill will toward the tech CEO, but just wants to highlight the difficulties of using the founder’s products.
“I hope the best for him, but let me tell you this: I will rule the search for ‘Mark Zuckerberg bankruptcy,’” he wrote.
“And if he does fall upon difficult financial times, and happens to be in Indiana, I will gladly handle his case in honor of our eponymy.”
