A MAY general election is “one million per cent not going to happen”, a senior government figure has said.
Westminster has been awash with rumours that Rishi Sunak could use the Budget as a springboard to call an early vote.

He would have to call an election by March 26 to have a May election.
Labour have tried to taunt the Tories into having an early election.
Shadow cabinet ministers have been sharing memes of Justin Timberlake with the words “it’s gonna be May” coming out of his mouth.
But senior government figures have chucked cold water over the idea.
One told The Sun on Sunday: “It is a million per cent not going to be May. It is not going to happen.
“I have never spoken to a single person in government who likes May. It will go long.”
The PM is expected to call the election in October or November, when interest and mortgage rates have hopefully come down.
