GERVONTA DAVIS’ coach has revealed his biggest concern heading into the exhibition fight against Jake Paul.

The WBA lightweight champion is due to face YouTuber-turned-boxer Paul on November 14 in Miami.

Due to the size disparity, the bout will NOT be professionally sanctioned or count towards their records.

And extra safety measures have been put in place – with both to wear bigger 12oz gloves and Paul restricted to weighing no more than 195lb.

But Davis’ trainer Calvin Ford has called for his man to wear regular 8oz gloves with Paul in 10oz.

He told FightHub: “I said the fight doable because I watched Tank for years and watched other young men in gyms deal with big guys.

“Yes, he’s big. To me it’s like Jake having his first open fights, if anyone knows about the amateurs.

“My only concern is the gloves because we don’t fight in 12oz gloves, we don’t use 12oz gloves, that’s training gloves.

“So my thing is, ‘put Tank in eights, put (Paul) in tens.’ That makes the fight more interesting and we’ll go from there.

“And I brought that up to one of his handlers and they say, ‘No, we don’t want to do no mix and match.’

“It’s supposed to be an exhibition – can wear the tens and we wear the eights, then we got a fight.”

The bout will have a winner declared – by decision or knockout – and will be contested over ten, three-minute rounds.

Ford brought up the issue of gloves at the press conference and Davis, 30, and Paul, 28, agreed to swap to 10oz.

But Ford later took to social media to reveal it was actually Davis’ team who requested the 12oz gloves – which will now remain in place.

Paul beat former middleweight world champ Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, 39, in June to earn himself a No14 cruiserweight rank in the WBA.

Meanwhile Davis drew with Lamont Roach, 30, and snubbed a rematch to face Paul in their exhibition.

Ford said: “Tank, everybody he fights he make famous. Roach was a nobody before.

“If any of them top guys that they talk about would’ve had an offer that been offered to Tank, they would’ve jumped on it, too.”
