COPS have launched an urgent probe after ‘human remains’ were found on the banks of the River Wear in Sunderland.
The grim discovery was made just after 10am this morning, near Wear Street.

Northumbria Police arrived at the scene after a member of public reported their find.
A force spokesperson said: “At around 10.05am today, we received a report of suspected human remains having been discovered on the riverbank near to Wear Street in South Hylton.
“Emergency services are currently in attendance at the scene to carry out enquiries.”
