A 40-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murdering two women in the capital five months apart.

Medics found the first alleged victim, Carmenza Trujillo, 53, unresponsive in March in the Aylesbury Estate, south-east London.

She tragically later died – and a police investigation was launched after her cause of death could not be established.

Enquiries led to the arrest of the man in question at the start of April, and he was released under investigation.

Sheryl Wilkins, 39, was killed a fortnight ago on High Road in Tottenham, on August 24.

She was found unresponsive by officers at 7:30am – and despite the best efforts of the London Ambulance service was pronounced dead at the scene.

Both of these cases have been linked to the same suspect, police said.

The man was arrested on Thursday by the Met’s Specialist Crime team on suspicion of murdering, Sheryl and re-arrested on suspicion of murdering Carmenza.

He remains in custody.

Detective Chief Inspector Neil John, leading the investigation, said: “My sympathy goes to the family and friends of both victims, who have been updated on this development and continue to be supported by specialist officers.

“No woman should feel unsafe in our city, and we know this news will cause concern across communities. Our investigation is continuing at pace and remains a priority.”
