ANGELA Rayner has sparked new fury by allowing her lover to be ferried around in her taxpayer-funded BMW.

The ex-Deputy PM’s protection officers were also seen lugging boxes and bags for Sam Tarry, 43, outside her flat in Hove, East Sussex.

But Rayner, 45, who quit nearly a month ago over a housing scandal, was nowhere to be seen.

She resigned after failing to pay £40,000 stamp duty on the £800,000 seaside bolthole.

Ms Rayner has been allowed to keep the car and guards to shield her from threats.

Strict rules mean the security is usually assigned only to politicians, not wider family.

The officers are also employed to provide protection — rather than help with errands.

The public deserves to know whether she has been abusing these privileges and taking them for a ride yet again.

Tory Party chairman Kevin Hollinrake

Furious Tory Party chairman Kevin Hollinrake said last night: “Once again, Labour has serious questions to answer.

“It is right that MPs and their families are protected from intimidation and violence.

“But Labour must now explain why Sam Tarry has been making use of Angela Rayner’s taxpayer-funded security and transport.

“The public deserves to know whether she has been abusing these privileges and taking them for a ride yet again.”

Ms Rayner, dubbed Three Pads by The Sun on Sunday in August over her houses, got back with former Labour MP Mr Tarry, 43, earlier this year after they dated from 2022-23.

He lost his Ilford South seat in last year’s election.

Her security is covered by Parliament using taxpayers’ cash.

It is unusual for backbench MPs to get this level of security, but Parliamentary authorities can decide to fund the protection if the MP faces extra threats.

But it is the photos of Mr Tarry being ferried around in the car and helped by the security guards on Thursday October 2 which will raise eyebrows.

Ms Rayner was not seen with her boyfriend.

Next day she was in Manchester at a vigil for those murdered in the synagogue terror attack — where she was flanked by the same female protection officer who was seen helping Mr Tarry load the car with boxes and bags.

The guard was also pictured with Ms Rayner on a visit to Downing Street in May, when she was still a Cabinet Minister.

Ms Rayner was one of Labour’s biggest frontbench stars and tipped as a possible party leader.

But on September 5 the stamp duty scandal led to her quitting as Deputy PM, Housing Secretary and deputy Labour leader.

The Sun on Sunday had exclusively revealed she had bought a new flat in Hove.

She also had a grace and favour flat in Whitehall, called Admiralty House, and was registered at the family home in her Greater Manchester constituency.

It was then revealed she had underpaid stamp duty on the new flat by £40,000.

A tearful Ms Rayner admitted she had underpaid but blamed incorrect tax advice.

The responsibility of any taxpayer for reporting their tax returns and settling their liabilities rests ultimately with themselves

Sir Laurie Magnus

The PM’s Independent Adviser on Ministerial Standards Sir Laurie Magnus found she had breached the ethics code by underpaying tax on her home.

In his report he said Ms Rayner had “acted with integrity and with a dedicated and exemplary commitment to public service”.

He added: “I am conscious of the acute challenges ministers face — perhaps uniquely — in managing the demands of their personal lives and their public responsibilities.”

But, crucially, sleazebuster Sir Laurie said: “However, the responsibility of any taxpayer for reporting their tax returns and settling their liabilities rests ultimately with themselves.”

Ms Rayner quit, triggering a big reshuffle by PM Sir Keir Starmer.

In August, The Sun on Sunday revealed how Mr Tarry had been working for political lobbying group Henham Strategy whose client Great South West got a £280,000 boost from the Government.

Security risk

Mr Tarry had been a Shadow transport minister until sacked by Sir Keir in July 2022 for giving a TV interview from a picket line.

He left Parliament last year.

The relationship between him and Ms Rayner was first revealed at the beginning of 2022.

Mr Tarry, then married to a paediatric consultant, was pictured with Ms Rayner as they left her flat one morning.

He had a toothbrush in his pocket.

The couple later split — but this March confirmed their romance was back on.

Last night a spokesperson for Ms Rayner said: “Angela has a heightened and active security risk, and her home in Hove has been attacked with misogynistic and extremist graffiti.

“Mindful of the ongoing risks facing Angela, the security team facilitated her partner moving a small number of her possessions into a vehicle to minimise risk to her security.

“The close protection team may undertake tasks based on the assessment of the situation and to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the person they are protecting.”

A government spokesman said of Ms Rayner’s security affairs: “Former ministers are not entitled to a government car.

“Security arrangements and the rules for MPs are a matter for parliamentary authorities, not government.”
