Rishi Sunak and Joe Biden hope to ink a trade agreement before both face elections next yearRex

While it will stop short of a full-fat free trade deal, it could be a useful boost for both the Prime Minister and President.

The Politico website reported that friction on farming, digital trade, and environmental standards could be relaxed.

A deal with America has long been eyed by successive Tory PMs but has faced constant sticking points.

Earlier this year Mr Sunak and Mr Biden signed the Atlantic Declaration which bolsters economic security by easing barriers on critical minerals.

Mr Biden faces re-election in November 2024, while the PM is also wants to win a historic fifth term for the Conservatives.
