A RYANAIR flight was diverted after a passenger allegedly “ate his passport” and another tried to flush theirs down the toilet.

The passenger jet set off from Milan for Stansted before the two men began acting strangely around 15 minutes into the flight, it is claimed.

Soon after the seat belt sign went off, one man at the front of the plane reportedly began ripping pages out of his passport and eating them, witnesses told the Daily Star.

Other passengers started to “freak out” before another man tried to flush his own passport down the toilet.

A source told the newspaper: “Staff were notified and went to see what was going on at the front of the plane.

“Suddenly the whole mood changed – no one onboard knew what was going on, these people were acting weird.”

A flight attendant is said to have then knocked on the toilet door and attempted to convince the passenger not to flush his passport.

A “blunt” announcement was made about what was going on and eventually the flight was diverted to Paris, the witness said.

They added it was “the most terrifying 15 minutes of my life”.

It is understood the two men were arrested by French police on landing.

The plane was then able to continue its journey to London two hours later.

The Sun has approached Ryanair for comment.
